Bharat Bandh: Anna Hazare sits on Hunger Strike to support farmers

Hazare said that there should be agitation in the country so that there is pressure on the government and they should take steps in the interest of farmers.

New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare sat on a daylong fast on Tuesday in support of farmers protesting against the three agricultural laws of the Center. The protesting farmers' organizations have also appealed to keep 'Bharat bandh' on Tuesday.

Hazare said that there should be agitation in the country so that there is pressure on the government and they should take steps in the interest of farmers.

Hazare said in a recorded message, 'I appeal to the people of the country, the movement that is going on in Delhi should go on in the whole country. To put pressure on the government, such a situation needs to be created and for this, farmers will have to take to the streets. But do not commit any violence.

Hazare is on a hunger strike at Ralegan Siddhi village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. He said that this is the right time for farmers to come on the roads and resolve their issue. He said, "I have supported this issue before and will continue to do so."

Govt never fulfills demands: Anna Hazare

Hazare also stressed the need to give autonomy to the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and implement the recommendations of the MS Swaminathan Commission. He also warned the government not to give autonomy to CACP and agitation over not implementing Swaminathan Commission recommendations. He said, "The government only gives assurances, never fulfills demands."

In view of the Bharat Bandh of farmers, security has been increased in different states, Bihar has tight security and action has been directed against those who violate law and order. Police are deployed in view of the bandh on the Indus border of Delhi. Also, political parties have taken to the streets in different states of the country.
