Banks add to burden on people ,made poorer by Centre

New Delhi: The BJP-led government at the Centre is not alone in increasing the burden on the people from this month. Some banks have made additional dents into their pockets.

The names of two banks—State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank-- stand out in this connection. Revising service rates, while SBI will charge Rs 600 for closing an account within a year,PNB will ask you to pay as much as Rs 800 under the same head.

In case the cheques deposited in these banks bounce, you will have to pay a penalty ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 1550. Both the banks have reduced the number of free lockers.

All this comes in the wake of additional zero point five per cent agriculture cess imposed by the central government from today ( Wednesday) which will raise service tax to 15 per cen
