Lucknow: This time there may be a ban on the sale of firecrackers on Deepawali in UP. In view of the rising air pollution in many cities of the country, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a notice to the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment.

Ban on Firecrackers :

The governments of 4 states including UP asking to ban firecrackers from 07 to 30 November. Along with this, the NGT has appointed senior advocates Raj Panjwani and Shivani Ghosh as amicus curiae to assist the governments and the Pollution Control Board in the matter.

What NGT says?

The NGT has said that it is necessary to protect public health and the environment. NGT chairman Justice AK Goel has called for the response from the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment, Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi Pollution Control Board as well as UP, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan governments in this regard.

Shortly after the NGT's decree, the Rajasthan government has also issued an order banning firecrackers in the state. According to the information received, the Rajasthan government has implemented a complete ban on firecrackers in the state till December 31.

Air Quality Index in Poor condition:

Along with Delhi-NCR, the air quality index is continuously deteriorating in many cities of UP, Haryana and Rajasthan. An association had filed a petition before the NGT on the basis of the possibility of increasing air pollution in Delhi-NCR and the increased risk of corona infection.

This petition includes some research reports of increasing mortality from pollution as well as those statements of Union Health Minister and Health Minister of Delhi, in which cases of Corona infection in Delhi due to air pollution during festivals are increasing. Apprehension was expressed.
