Ballia district to name a degree college after 'Nirbhaya'

After the rising atrocities against women, a degree college in Ballia will be named after Nirbhaya, the 23 year old girl who was brutally gang-raped and murdered by six men inside a moving bus in Delhi on December 2012.

Lucknow: After the rising atrocities against women, a degree college in Ballia will be named after Nirbhaya, the 23 year old girl who was brutally gang-raped and murdered by six men inside a moving bus in Delhi on December 2012.

Addressing a programme organised as part of a cultural event, Garha Mahotsava, in Bharauli area of Ballia on Saturday night, UP sports minister (independent charge) Upendra Tiwari said, “I have discussed the issue (opening a college after Nirbhaya) with chief minister Yogi Adityanath. A survey will be conducted soon to identify the site for the college.”

Speaking on Nirbhaya, Hyderabad and Unnao gang rape incident, Tiwari said there should be no mercy for accused in such cases. “The state government is ensuring stern action against people involved in crime against women," he said.

Earlier, local BJP MP Virendra Singh Mast inaugurated the mahotsava in which participants discussed measures for revival of Bhojpuri folk music and art.

As many as 14 couples also tied nuptial knot in a mass marriage programme.

The news of four convicts to be hanged soon surfaced after President Ramnath Kovind rejected the mercy petition of one of the accused, Vinay Sharma and after the reports that Tihar Jail where the convicts are lodged is looking for a hangman as they don't have one of their own.
