August is the deadliest for Indian Railways, heres why?

Lucknow: Train accidents in India have been on a rise in the past few years and each time such mishap takes place, the issue of safety in Indian Railways comes to the fore. Newstrack.com conducted a quick research into the train accidents in India and found that month of 'August is the deadliest' for Indian Railways.

The figures coming out from the research show that since 1995, India has observed 8 major train accidents and claimed over 800 lives, all in August.

Find out below the major train accidents in month of August:

August 20, 1995 - Purushottam Express and Kalindi Express collided with each other, claiming 400 lives and injuring nearly 300 people.

August 13, 1998 - 19 people died and 17 had suffered injuries when Madurai Express was derailed in Chennai.

August 2, 1999 - Awadh Asam Express and Bhuvneshwar Mail Express collided with each other, killing 19 people.

August 18, 2006 - Several people died when Gautami Express, that was enroute to Sikandarabad, was engulfed into flames.

August 17, 2010 - Four people died during the Faizabad-Lucknow Rail division accident.

August 19, 2013 - 32 people died and several others were injured after coming in front of the Rajya Rani Express in Khagadiya district in Bihar.

August 4, 2015 - Kamayani Express and Janata Express derailed in Harda in Madhya Pradesh. 30 people died in it while several others were injured.

August 19, 2017 - 14 coaches of Kaling-Utkal express derailed in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, killing at least 23 people and injuring over 80.

LIST of TRAIN ACCIDENTS in India in 2016:

May 1, 2016 - Faizabad-Delhi Express derailed near Hapur. No casualties were reported.

May 6, 2016 - Seven people died after Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast express collided with another train.

November 20 2016: In one of the worst train accidents in the history of India, at least 150 people were killed and over 200 were injured when 14 coaches of Indore-Patna Express derailed at Pukhrayan near Kanpur. The intensity of the damage suggested that the train was at its peak speed.

December 28, 2016 - Over 40 people faced seviour injuries when 15 coaches of Azmer-Siyaldah express derailed near Kanpur.

LIST of ACCIDENTS in 2017:

Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express derailment, Jan 22, 2017 - Twenty-seven people were killed and 36 others were injured when nine coaches of the express train derailed in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district.

Kalindi Express derailment, Feb 20, 2017 - The engine and the three coaches of the Delhi-bound Kalindi Express was derailed at the Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh.

Ujjain train blast, March 3, 2017 - Eight people were injured, in an explosion in the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train near Jabdi station in Madhya Pradesh. The state government had called it a terrorist attack.

Train rams into ambulance in Bengaluru, March 17, 2017 - Four women were killed when a passenger train rammed into an ambulance at an unmanned level crossing at Mannekote-Talaka road in Karnataka's Chitradurga district.

Mahakaushal Express derailment, March 30, 2017 - A total of 52 passengers were injured when the Mahakaushal Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh.
