Atal Tunnel: PM Modi to inaugurate World's longest underground highway on Oct3

The tunnel is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. According to the information provided by the PMO, the Prime Minister will inaugurate it on October 3 at 10 am.

New Delhi: This is the world's longest tunnel for traffic, at an altitude of 10,000 feet in Rohtang, Himachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The tunnel is on name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. According to the information provided by the PMO, the Prime Minister will inaugurate it on October 3 at 10 am.

PM Modi to inaugurate Atal tunnel:

As per the Cabinet approved reception scheme, Special welcome of PM Modi . Authority will give a grand reception on his arrival as per the traditions of the districts. The PM will be accompanied by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur is also coming on the same day.

Protocols will be followed in covid period:

Following all the covid-19 protocols during the ceremony, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said on 28 September that PM Modi will address two public meetings in Himachal Pradesh after opening the strategic Atal Bihari Rohtang.

The tunnel constructed at a height of 3000 m (10,000 ft) above mean sea level (MSL) with super-modern features in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. This reduces the road distance between Manali and Leh to 46 km and the time from 4 to 5 hours.

This Tunnel has the state of the art electromechanical system. Which includes semi transverse ventilation system, SCADA controlled firefighting, illumination and monitoring system.

Tunnel through Manali to the Lahaul-Spiti valley :

Named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the 9.2-km-long tunnel is the longest highway tunnel in the world, connecting Manali to the Lahaul-Spiti valley throughout the year. Earlier, the valley was cut for about 6 months due to heavy snowfall every year.
