New Delhi: The exercise to resolve the ongoing border dispute with the neighboring state of Mizoram has intensified. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. During this, BJP MPs from Assam will also be present. CM Himanta also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday regarding the border dispute.

Assam Mizoram Border Dispute:

Earlier, CM Himanta had said, "We have lost precious lives during the violence, but we have to move on the path of peace and progress. We are committed to protect constitutional borders, but I would appeal to our people to allow Mizoram to allow movement of goods.

CM Biswa to meet PM Modi:

Trucks from the rest of the country were able to enter Mizoram across the disputed border with neighboring Assam on Sunday, 13 days after a bloody clash between police forces of Assam and Mizoram. The truck drivers had parked their trucks at Dholai near the border and refused to proceed from there even after the informal blockade enforced by the locals was lifted.

The ministers of Assam and Mizoram, after meeting last week, had agreed to settle the dispute on the border by amicable settlement of differences.

At least six Assam Police personnel and a civilian were killed and more than 50 people were injured in a violent clash between the police of the two states on July 26. The two states share a border of 164.6 km between Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts of Assam and Kolasib, Mamit and Aizawl districts of Mizoram.
