New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has cancelled the land allotted to Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its headquarters in Delhi, saying that the party must surrender the land.

The Delhi LG delivered the decision after a committee claimed that the AAP government, which is having its second term in the national capital, cleared policies and implemented decisions without abiding by the set process for a Union Territory like the capital.

It may be mentioned that the Union Territories are controlled by the Centre and the Lieutenant Governor, who works as a representative of the central government.

A three-member committee headed by former national auditor VK Shunglu studied hundreds of files and decisions taken by the Kejriwal government and said that the Delhi government did not take permission from the Lieutenant Governor before taking the important decisions on subjects on which, by law, he must be consulted.

The Aam Aadmi Party, however, has claimed that controversies are being cooked against it ahead of the municipal corporation election to tarnish its image.

The upcoming election is being looked as a litmus paper test of the popularity of Arvind Kejriwal, who came to power in Delhi with an emphatic win in the Assembly polls winning 67 out of a total of 70 assembly seats.
