Retired army jawan commits suicide over delay in OROP

Unhappy with delay in the implementation of the One rank One pension ( OROP ) scheme, a 70-year-old retired army jawan, Ram Kishan Grewal,committed suicide by consuming poison at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday.

New Delhi: Unhappy with delay in the implementation of the One rank One pension ( OROP ) scheme, a 70-year-old retired army jawan, Ram Kishan Grewal,committed suicide by consuming poison at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to the Police,"Grewal had come to the national capital to submit a memorandum regarding the OROP to the Defence Ministry over the delay in its implementation. " He came here to submit a letter to the Ministry of Defence over the issue but committed suicide since he was not allowed to meet the Defence Minister ."

The suicide note of Gerewal stated, "I am taking this action for the benefit of soldiers."

Kejriwal attacks PM Modi:

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed sadness and urged the countrymen to fight for the rights of Jawans. He said that it was a failure on behalf of Central government who had promised the soldiers of the country that they would get their rights as soon as possible.
  • "The suicide by the retired jawan proved that PM Modi was lying about the implementation of OROP," the Delhi CM tweeted.
