New Delhi: Picking holes in the security arrangements in view of the Uri terror attack, former Defence Minister A K Antony on Sunday said it was unfortunate that the Pathankot strike in January last could not open the government’s eyes.

“The assault took place owing to the lapse of security, indeed. Unfortunately, the Centre did not learn any lessons from the Pathankot airbase attack,” said the Congress leader while talking to newsmen in the national capital.

It may be recalled that seven servicemen were killed when six militants, who had sneaked in from Pakistan, carried out an attack on the airbase.

What else Antony said:

  • Pakistan as well as its army is responsible for intensifying the unrest in Kashmir.
  • The Indian Army should be given a free hand to carry out tactical operations.
