New Delhi: Replacing Najeeb Jung, former Home Secretary Anil Baijal is all set to take over as New Delhi Lieutenant Governor.

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday confirmed the same, tweeting, “I welcome Anil Baijal as the Lt. Governor of Delhi’.

The President of India Pranab Mukherjee also approved the appointment of Baijal, said sources. Earlier in the day, Pranab Mukherjee had accepted the resignation of Jung.

Najeeb Jung had submitted his resignation on December 22.

Other Highlights:

  • Baijal would be the 21st Lt Governor of Delhi.
  • He was the Union Home Secretary under the regime of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • Anil Bailjal was 1969 batch IAS officer.
