Amulya Patnaik named the new Delhi Police Commissioner
New Delhi: Amulya Patnaik was on Monday appointed the new Delhi Police Commissioner, after Alok Kumar Verma was elevated as the director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on January 19.
Patnaik is a 1985-batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IPS officer.
"Amulya Kumar Patnaik has been named the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi from the date of actual assumption of the charge, in place of Alok Kumar, who has been appointed as Director, CBI, till further orders," the Centre said in an order.
Currently working as the Special Commissioner (Administration) in Delhi Police, Patnaik was among the frontrunners for the post along with two senior officers Deepak Mishra and Dharmendra Kumar.
Despite being a batch junior to Deepak Mishra and Dharmendra Kumar, Amulya Patnaik was chosen for the job following his clean image, reported a news agency. He was conferred with the President's Police medal for distinguished services as well as Police medal for meritorious service.
