Freezing of bank accounts is not accidental: Avinash Kumar
Giving full information in this regard, Avinash Kumar, Executive Director of Amnesty International India said that action has been taken against the institution for the last two years and freezing of bank accounts is not accidental.
He alleged that there was constant harassment by government agencies including the Enforcement Directorate. Recently we raised our voice on the Delhi violence and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, after which the government took action.
Millions of Indians contributed in Amnesty:
Amnesty International India said that we are following all Indian and international laws. The institution for human rights work in India operates through a different model of raising funds domestically. In the last eight years, more than four million Indians have supported the work of Amnesty International India and around 100,000 Indians have made financial contributions.
Amnesty International India stated that these contributions cannot have any relation with the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. The Government of India is describing it as a case of money laundering, which is a proof of the maliciousness of human rights activists and institutions.
Executive Director Avinash Kumar said that the attack on Amnesty International India and other vocal human rights organizations, activists and human rights defenders illustrates the oppressive policy. The Enforcement Directorate and the Government of India are deliberately trying to create a situation of fear so that the voice can be suppressed.
