The BJP had on Friday launched a campaign with a toll-free number where people can give a missed call and register to support the CAA.

However, BJP president Amit Shah has disclosed that over 52 lakh missed calls from verifiable phone numbers have been received on this special number in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

"52,72,000 missed calls have been received on a special number in support of Citizenship Amendment Act from verifiable phone numbers, total 68 lakh calls have been received," Shah said.

The Home Minister further said that the campaign has been launched to bust the myths around the CAA.

“People can give a missed call to toll-free number 8866288662 and extend their support to the new law,” BJP leader Anil Jain had said.

Addressing a rally in Delhi, Shah launched a scathing attack on the Congress accusing them of misleading the nation over the CAA. He further said that the law is meant to give citizenship and not take it.

The party is also carrying out Ghar-Ghar Sampark Abhiyan (door-to-door) campaign to explain the provisions of the citizenship law to the masses.

The BJP president along with senior party leaders participated in a 10-day door-to-door campaign across the country to spread awareness about the act after a wave of anti-CAA protests engulfed the nation since it was passed in December last year.

Shah visited homes in Lajpat Nagar, distributed pamphlets and talked to people about the benefits of the amended citizenship law.

Meanwhile, the BJP is also going to start the campaign in Bihar with top leaders flying down to the state to address public meetings and raise awareness about the legislation.

While Shah is scheduled to address people in Vaishali district on January 16, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will hold a public meeting in Gaya.

The party’s massive door-to-door campaign is currently underway in the state with rallies addressed by Union minister of state for Home Nityanand Rai and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.

Once the toll free number was issued, twitter abuzzed with various tweets that promised them fascinating thigs like free netflix subscription and even sex in order to get maximum missed calls on this number.
