SHIATS suspends 18 Afghani students ahead of Karzai visit to UP

Allahabad: On the eve of the three-day visit of the former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai in Uttar Pradesh, the Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS) suspended 18 Afghanistan students after they clashed with other students in the varsity campus.

A University spokesperson said that an objectionable Whatsapp was the reason behind the clash. The Afghani students on Tuesday attacked the other students with the rod. The varsity administration taking prompt action suspended the students.

The issue may snowball into major controversy as the Afghan Embassy has been informed and it is keeping a close watch on the development. It may take up the issue with the Indian government tomorrow.

The visit:

The former President Karzai will arrive in the state capital Lucknow on Wednesday.

He will go to Kanpur to be the Chief Guest at a function being organized by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.

He will stay in Kanpur on Wednesday and Thursday and will return to Lucknow on March 4 to depart for Delhi.
