AAP announces former IAS Elvis Gomes as CM candidate for Goa

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday declared former bureaucrat Elvis Gomes as party’s chief ministerial candidate in Goa. The state will witness assembly elections in early 2017.

The announcement came in a public rally in South Goa's Cuncolim by the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. “Today before you, I am bringing forward a proposal. I propose Elvis Gomes as the next Chief Minister of Goa,” announced Kejriwal.

Gomes, who joined AAP in October, retired recently after serving as Inspector General of Prisons.

Praising Elvis Gomes, Kejriwal said:

  • When a person who had never got a chance to indulge in corruption, says I am honest, that is not important.
  • Elvis has been in Goa administration for 20 years. He could have amassed crores of rupees.
  • He did not make a single paisa. He is a dead honest officer.

Bharaiya Janata Party currently represents Goa as Congress lost the state to BJP in 2012.
