A Man opens fire during CAA protest near Jamia University 

New Delhi: A man was detained on Thursday after he brandished a pistol at Jamia Millia Islamia students demonstrating against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on Thursday. A student form Jamia Millia University was injured.

The man, who is yet to be identified, was overpowered by protesters. A student appeared to have been injured in the incident, which led to panic in the Jamia area. Locals said A man with gun was walking shouting he is gonna shoot and the police did nothing, he shot towards us, A Student has been shot on the hand and is being taken to hospital.

In the video, the man brandishing the gun can be heard saying, “Yeh lo azaadi…Hindustan zindabad…Delhi Police zindabad.” Delhi Police personnel were present when the shooting took place. The man, identified as Gopal, has been detained.

There was heavy police presence and several media crews in place when the incident took place. The students were heading from Jamia to Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat.
