2019 LS Polls LIVE: More than 100 EVMs replaced in Saharanpur

New Delhi: Polling began on Thursday morning in 91 constituencies spread across 18 states and two union territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections with total 1279 candidates.

Voting is also underway in 175 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, 32 in Sikkim and 28 seats in Odisha.

Highlights of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections Phase 1:

-Brisk polling was recorded in the eight Lok Sabha constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh with an estimated 40 per cent turnout till 1300 hrs in the first leg of the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls.

-A dalit was denied voting rights in Uttar Pradesh's Kairana Constituency after an EC official humiliated him and shooed him away from the booth due to his caste, as per victim. The congress condemn the incident via tweet.

-Technical glitches in EVMs have been reported from several states on the fist day of the polls. More than 100 EMVs have been replaced after technical faults.

-24.32 percent voter turnout was recorded in 8 seats till 11 o'clock in the morning session. 25.60 percent in Saharanpur, 24 percent in Kairana, 26.40 percent in Muzaffarnagar, 25.01 percent in Bijnore, 21.80 percent in Maratha, 25 percent in Baghpat, 22.40 percent in Ghaziabad and 24.14 percent voting in Noida was regestered.

-Total Voter turnout by 11 p.m.: 24.66% from Jammu and Baramulla Lok Sabha seats, West Bengal had 38.08% (2 seats), Tripura (1 seat), 26.5%. In Telangana, 22.84% voting was registered, 23.78% in Uttarakhand, 23.10% in Lakshadweep and 13.7% in Maharashtra (7 seats). 27% voting in Meghalaya.

-By 9 o'clock, Bihar witnessed 5 percent voting, while, Aurangabad regestered 5.6 per cent, Gaya got 11 per cent, Nawada 3 per cent and Jamui 3 percent voter turnout.

-UP's Meerut witnessed 10per cent voting till 9 AM. 11 percent polling in Baghpat till 9 am 21 percent polling in Nagaland till 9 am.

-Voter turnout in Telangana was 10.06%, Andaman and Nicobar Islands 5.83% , Assam 10.2%, Arunachal Pradesh 13.3% and 9.83% in Lakshadweep.

In Andhra Pradesh assembly, Madhya Pradesh candidate, Madhusudan Gupta arrested after he broke EVM at a polling station in Gooty, in Anantapur district.

Polling in all the Lok Sabha constituencies of Andhra Pradesh (25), Telangana (17), Uttarakhand (5), Meghalaya (2) and Arunachal Pradesh (2) besides lone seats in Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar, and Lakshadweep is being held.

Eight seats in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Maharashtra, six in Bihar, five in Assam, four in Odisha, two each in Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal and one seat in Chhattisgarh are also going to polls.

Voting for the 543 Lok Sabha seats is be held in seven phases: April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting will be done on May 23.
