New Delhi: Today is the 17the anniversary of Parliament terror attack. The horrific incident took place on Dec 13, 2001 when some terrorists outfits belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), stormed in the Parliament House and opened fire indiscriminately.

Around 14 people were killed, among them were five Delhi Police personnel, a woman Central Reserve Police official, two Parliament watch and ward staff, a gardener and a camera personnel who lost their lives to this terror attack.

They had AK-47 guns, and were carrying bags on their backs and shoulders. They first targeted the four Parliament security guards who had tried to stop them from entering into the complex. The guards had died on the spot.

People sitting inside the Parliament didn't have any clue what is happening outside. They thought it is the sound of firecrackers but suddenly they realized the gravity of the situation as a big and loud blast shook the entire Parliament building.

They saw bodies of security guards soaked in their blood, they all were horrified. They all started to run for their lives. In this chaotic situation they were trying to hide themselves in the corners, under the tables or any secure place within the sight.

That day it was winter session of Parliament. The attack took place around 40 minutes after the parliament was adjourned. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and opposition leader Sonia Gandhi had already left the premises after the Parliament was adjourned. Lal Krishna Advani with 200 other members of Parliament was stuck in the building.

Extensive investigations revealed the involvement of four accused namely Afzal Guru, Shaukat Hussain, SAR Geelani and Navjot Sandhu.
