17 killed, several others injured in Madhya Pradesh floods
Bhopal: At least 17 people have lost their lives after collapse of buildings owing to continuous heavy downpour in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
In one of the cases, seven members of a family died while three injured in Sagar district’s Rahatgarh town.
Others who received severe wounds were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The army was called to carry out a rescue operation. People stranded in floods were been airlifted by the army helicopters. Food packets and medicines were also dropped by the Indian Air Force aircrafts.
Tamas, Simrawal and Chhoti Tamas rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakhs to the bereaved families.
“Four people have been pulled out of the debris so far; many more are feared trapped and efforts are being made to rescue them,” the police said.
