Why is there lack of sleep before periods and restlessness at night?

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a premenstrual syndrome that often appears before women's menstruation. There are many physical symptoms like mood swings, breast pain, fatigue, irritability. At the same time, some women struggle with sleep problems before periods. Due to which there is difficulty in sleeping. The doctor told that sleep problems are related to PMS.
PMS can be very troublesome for many menstruating women and it can affect more than 90% of them in the one or two weeks before their menstruation. According to a research published in Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health, 75% of menstruating women show PMS symptoms in various ways on their body, and 3-8% have severe symptoms.
According to Dr. Archana Dhawan Bajaj, Gynecologist Obstetrician and IVF Specialist, Nurture IVF Clinic, New Delhi, PMS symptoms often include bloating, breast pain and pain in the private parts or muscles, which can keep women awake or cause insomnia.
Insomnia- Due to restlessness, people do not get enough sleep. Due to which the everyday lifestyle is greatly affected. A 2017 study published in the Scholars Journal of Applied Medical Sciences (SJAMS) found that 20.1% of the 194 participants aged 17 to 22 years experienced PMS with insomnia. The researchers listed some of the most common symptoms experienced by the participating women, which were abdominal pain, fatigue, mood swings, anxiety and irritability.
