BJP wins Tripura; Biplab Deb likely to be the next CM

Agartala: Ending the 25-year-old Left Front rule, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to form the government in Tripura after observing a landmark victory.

The saffron brigade has not officially announced the chief ministerial face in the state but Biplab Deb, the BJP’s Tripura unit president, seems to be a front-runner.

Who is Biplab Deb?

Mr Deb, the RSS trained party worker, was born in Udaipur subdivision of south Tripura but had been educated at Delhi and spent the better part of his life in RSS headquarter at Nagpur.

It was during his time with the RSS that Deb caught the attention of Sunil Deodhar, the BJP’s Tripura in-charge. Biplab was introduced to the people of Tripura when BJP made Deodhar the in-charge.

After Prime minister Narendra Modi formed government at the Centre in 2014, the party sent Mr Deb from New Delhi.

Former RSS volunteer Biplab Deb was elected as president of state unit of BJP. He had replaced Sudhindra Dasgupta, the longest serving president of the party.
