Nidahas Trophy Final: Rahman lifts Bangladesh to 166/8 against India

Colombo: Owing to a fabulous 77-run knock by Sabbir Rahman, a struggling Bangladesh managed to post 166/8 on the scoreboard against India in the final of the Nidahas Trophy at the R Premadasa Stadium here on Sunday.

Rahman, however, got Mahmudullah run out by a bad call but scored 77 important runs off just 50 balls with the help of 7 fours and 4 sixes to lift a struggling Bangladesh in the much-anticipated final.

Indian bowlers had sent both the openers – Tamim Iqbal (15 off 13, 1 four) and Liton Das (11 off 9, 1 six) – back to the pavilion when there were only 27 runs on the board.

Saumya Sarkar also returned cheaply as he could only add one run to the total off 2 deliveries. Mushfiqur Rahim, who had played a brilliant inning against India earlier in the series, failed today and was dismissed at 9 runs off 12 balls.

Mahmudullah looked good in his 21-run inning which came off only 16 balls and was laced with 2 boundaries, fell prey to some sharp work by Vijay Shankar.

Bangladesh completely rode on the brilliance on Sabbir Rahmaan who played a memorable inning of 77 runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal was once again exceptional in his three overs as he dismissed three for just 18 runs in his four-over spell. Jaydev Unadkat picked up two wickets both in his final over. He gave 33 runs in his four overs.

Washington Sundar was once again amazing in his four overs as he gave only 20 runs and picked up a wicket.
