Jaipur: A gritty combined effort by youngsters Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan went in vain as experienced batsmen of Mumbai Indians (MI) failed to capitalise the fantabulous start given by the batsmen against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Indian Premier League (IPL 2018) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Sunday.

After the golden duck dismissal of Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan stitched together an 129-run partnership off only 13.4 overs. Yadav scored 72 runs off only 47 deliveries and smashed 6 fours and 3 sixes while Kishan played a 58-run knock off only 42 deliveries and laced his inning with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Kieron Pollard was promoted up in the order but owing consistent fall of wickets from other end, he failed to execute the plans. He remained unbeaten at 21 runs off 20 balls with 1 four and a six.

Rohit Sharma threw away his wicket trying to steal an impossible single. He also went for a duck.

Jofra Archer marked a dream debut in IPL picking up three wickets for only 22 runs in 4 overs. Dhawal Kulkarni also bagged 2 wickets for 32 runs in 4 overs, while Jaydev Unadkat managed one scalp in his four overs for 31 runs.

K Gowtham, however, did not get any wickets but remained economical conceding only 20 runs in his three overs.

It seems that RR should not feel any pressure after restricting MI for only 167 runs when at a time they were looking to cross the 200-run mark easily.
