Lucknow: It was in the year 1962 when the morality among the politicians was not considered as 'incongruous' unlike today when rapacity across this breed is order of the day.

It was in the year 1962 when the first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad vacated the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Along with other official property, he had also left behind two winnowing baskets (soops) which were given to his wife Rajvanshi Devi by noted litterateur Mahadevi Verma on former's request in discharge of her daily chores. The outgoing President of India had very simple logic behind it that the two winnowing baskets had become property of the President House hence he would not take these along with his personal luggage.

Now 56 years down the line, the morality, ethics and probity are the virtues which have been thrown to wind and overweening sense of greed is preponderant and prevails everywhere to be seen and experienced.

The substantiation of reference is rather simple. Six former Chief Ministers were asked by the Supreme Court to vacate their bungalows, allotted to them as they were entitled to as the former CM (before SC order). Akhilesh Yadav was one of them to vacate his residence as well.

On Saturday, the Public Works Department organised a media tour of the vacated premises and found it appalling how the public money spent on it during his Chief Ministerial days were wasted. The mediapersons found swimming pool, lift place, false ceilings and expensive tiles in ransacked condition while expensive taps, electric fittings, LED bulbs and tubelights missing. Not only this, the rare plants ornamented in the sprawling lawn were also taken away by him when he shifted from this bungalow situated at Vikramaditya Marg, one of the most posh location of the state capital.

According to a PWD official, an astronomical amount (unconfirmed sources put the figure at Rs 50 crore) was spent to spruce up this accomodation which Akhilesh had selected for himself as his entitlement as the former CM. Sadly, there was no remorse from the Samajwadi Party what his President did to public money - spending huge amount even before he shifted into it and wasting all the money while vacating it. Nobody from the party was forthcoming to comment while tried to contact and speak up on what was shown and what did media see.
