An era comes to an end, Shashi Kapoor passes away at 79

Mumbai: It was an end of the era when veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, once acknowledged as one of Bollywood’s most handsome heroes, passed away at the age of 79 after prolonged illness.

He was admitted at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital here.

Shashi Kapoor is survived by daughter Sanjana Kapoor and his two sons Kunal Kapoor and Karan Kapoor.

Shashi, who was a son of Prithviraj Kapoor and brother of Raj Kapoor, made his debut with Dharmputra in 1961.His career was decorated with 116 films.

In 2011, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the government. He was also feliciated with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.

His wife Jennifer died of cancer in 1984. Shashi and Jennifer had established the Prithvi Theatre in November 1978.
