U P new film policy has found many takers

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government’s new film policy has attracted as many as 82 proposals for shooting in the state. Amitabh Bachchan starrer, Asman Tak, is one of them.

The main reason for the state catching the attention of the film buffs is the cash incentive of Rs there crore for shooting 75 per cent of the film here. In addition it has announced a cash award of Rs 2.51 lakh each to the directors of such films.

Several films have already benefited from the new policy. To make the state a new film destination it has offered some other incentives like tax exemption too. The latest film to benefit from the exemption is Sarbjit which is based on the story of an Indian who crossed over to Pakistan, inadvertently, and who was taken to be a terrorist and jailed.

According to reports reaching here, some foreign producers have also shown interest and expressed desire to shoot documentaries at some popular locations. The state has a lot of historical sites which are equally known outside the country and could be a source of attraction.

Some film critics, however, believe that the cash incentive offered is quite small. Only a small budget-film can get some relief with this kind of offer. The amount should be raised.
