Cast: Salman Khan, Anushka Sharma, Randeep Hooda

Director: Ali Abbas Zafar

Rating: 3.5/5

It is believed when Salman Khan makes a movie, India is his audience and Sultan is one such film, the country is rooting for!!! An unusual ‘Eidi’ delight from the actor which boasts cuteness, soul and patriotism reaching the crescendo level. The righteous wrestling techniques with few signature moves like ‘dhobi pachhad’ and ‘patkhani’, Salman Khan in and as Sultan is the man in the ‘akhada’ to watch out for.

By using the word ‘unusual’, we mean to mention that this isn’t a razzle-dazzle show from the actor as he sheds being a stereotype action hero of any other Hindi film to take moviegoers to an emotional ride, carrying a strong social message for the people flocking to theatres.

The myth of the male-dominance in Khans endeavor breaks to an extent with Anushka Sharma portraying an equally important character of Aarfa in Sultan. She has yet another time exhibited her acting class by not being overshadowed in a Salman Khan co-starred film.

Supporting Cast:

Director Ali Abbas Zafar excellently captured the mood of wrestling by introducing couple of real wrestlers in form of Tyron Woodley and Marko Zaror. After proving his mettle in films like Sarbjit and Highway, Randeep Hooda, though for a short but solid appearance, left the audiences glued to his versatile acting proficiency as he turns the man for Sultan to regain his lost faith.

Roles of Amit Sadh as Akaash, Anant Vidhaat as Govind and Kumud Mishra as Bartak in the film were exceptional and flawless and kudos to the director for giving equal and relevant importance to their characters and blending it beautifully till the end.

Plot:

Bollywood lacks rich content and several South re-makes is an instance to it. But Sultan is different due to various apparent reasons and hence, breaking the records at the Box Office. Film is about a Haryanvi guy Sultan who falls in love with an ambitious girl Aarfa (Anushka Sharma), who returned from Delhi to bring laurels to his father’s ‘Akhada’ by bagging an Olympic Gold medal in Wrestling. Sultan fights with himself to meet up to her standards and becomes an Olympic Gold Medalist.

Aarfa opens her arm for Sultan and they enter wedlock. Success soon becomes Sultan’s arrogance and eventually ended up losing his wife. The film after interval shows Salman preparing himself for a modern style fighting league – Take Down, whose founder is a businessman Aakash and also Sultan's presenter for the event. Film poses various ups and lows in the life of Sultan Ali Khan but he eventually comes out as a winner.

Songs:

Music Composer duo Vishal – Shekhar and lyricist Irshad Kamil did a wonderful job by beautifully blending the aggression, romance, emotions and peppiness. Sultan’s songs like ‘Jag Ghumeya’, ‘Sultan’ (Title Track), ‘Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai’ and ‘440 Volt’ have been ruling the chartbusters.

Conclusion:

All in all, if you are a sportsman from inside, you will definitely feel like going out and fight for India. It is for sure, Salman Khan’s most authentic performance in a decade and everyone must check-in to the nearby theatres to give it a watch.
