Sixth installment of horror series 'Final Destination' in progress

California: Pictures and New Line Cinema are all set to work with 'Saw' screenwriters, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to serve the sixth installment of 'Final Destination' horror franchise.

In an official announcement it was said that a reboot was in the works at Warner Bros. The new film is billed as a "re-imagining" of the franchise.

New Line is reviving its 'Final Destination' franchise, which has been dormant since 2011, says reports.

The five films of grossed nearly $700 million worldwide between 2000 and 2011 making it the tenth highest grossing horror franchise in the United States at approximately $347.8 million.

Unlike most horror franchises, the antagonist was Death as an unavoidable fate manifesting itself in a myriad of ways.

In the first 'Final Destination', a high school student played by Devon Sawa has a premonition the plane he is about to board will explode, leading to several passengers being left behind before the plane actually explodes.

The survivors are then killed in a series of bizarre accidents, such as Kerr Smith's character being crushed by a neon sign.

New Line's most successful recent movies have been in the relatively low-cost horror genre. Those include the adaptation of Stephen King's 'It', which hit $700 million in worldwide box office, and in the 'Conjuring' universe, which has seen five films deliver $1.6 billion cumulatively in worldwide box office since 2013.

Reddick, originally wrote the script for an episode of TV series 'The X Files', but later decided to turn the script into a feature-length film at the behest of one of his New Line Cinema colleagues.
