Pakistani actor Fawad Khan booked over 'polio refusal' for daughter

The union council monitoring officer (UCMO) in his FIR complained that the polio team visited Fawad's residence at 5 p.m. on Tuesday but "the head of the family has been refusing to have the children vaccinated against polio and has been threatening the polio team with serious consequences."

Lahore: Pakistani authorities filed FIRs against six peoples, including actor Fawad Khan, for refusing anti-polio drops to be given to their children by officers, however, the actor has denied the charge.

In a statement, actor's manager refuted such reports, saying, "Nothing could be further from the truth as neither of the parents was home at the time of (the) visit by the anti-polio team."

The union council monitoring officer (UCMO) in his FIR complained that the polio team visited Fawad's residence at 5 p.m. on Tuesday but "the head of the family has been refusing to have the children vaccinated against polio and has been threatening the polio team with serious consequences."

The charges in FIR also include negligence that can spread infection of disease dangerous to life, punishment for criminal intimidation, obstructing public servant in the execution of public duty and disobedience to order duly disseminate by public servant.

It was, however, not clear whether the "head of the family" referred to in the FIR copy is Fawad or some other family member.

Actor's manager also claimed that the actor had been abroad since February 13 and is currently in the US.

"He come to know of the FIR through the press," said the manager.

Clarifying Fawad's stand on anti-polio vaccines, he further said that the actor "fully supports" the anti-polio campaign and is "very well aware" of the guidelines of international organisations regarding the disease. He also threatened of legal actions if the alleged false FIR don't get cancelled.
