e-Shram Portal

The Indian government has taken a groundbreaking step to empower millions of unorganized workers by launching a multilingual feature on the e-Shram portal. This initiative ensures that the portal, which provides access to vital social security benefits, is now available in all 22 Scheduled Indian Languages. By breaking down linguistic barriers, this feature opens doors for workers from diverse backgrounds to register and benefit from government schemes effortlessly.

Why the e-Shram Portal is a Game-Changer

The e-Shram portal was initially available only in a few languages, limiting its accessibility for many workers. Now, with support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MEITY) Bhashini project, the portal caters to workers in their native languages. This enhancement is a significant stride in ensuring inclusivity and user engagement.

Key Features of the Multilingual Portal:

Linguistic Diversity: Supports all 22 Scheduled Languages, fostering inclusivity.

Daily Registrations: Over 30,000 unorganized workers register daily, showcasing its growing popularity.

Access to Benefits: Connects workers to 12 government schemes aimed at improving welfare and livelihood.

Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, emphasized the importance of this initiative in making social security accessible to every unorganized worker in India.

Enhanced Accessibility and User Experience

The government has implemented strategic measures to simplify the registration process and improve user experience on the portal.

Facilitating Registrations:

Mediators: Common Service Centres, Bank Correspondents, and Post Offices assist workers with portal registration.

Mobile App Launch: A planned e-Shram mobile app will enable seamless updates and access to benefits.

Streamlined Process: A Single Common Application Form will allow single sign-on for various schemes, eliminating repetitive paperwork.

This holistic approach ensures that even workers with limited digital literacy can easily navigate the portal.

Future-Ready Initiatives: Expanding the e-Shram Portal

The Ministry of Labour and Employment is dedicated to transforming the e-Shram portal into a comprehensive platform for social security.

Integration of Schemes:

Efforts are underway to include welfare programs from central and state governments, making the portal a one-stop solution for unorganized workers.

Additional Features:

Focus on Gig Workers: The inclusion of gig and construction workers in the database ensures no worker is left behind.

Payment Gateways: Plans to integrate payment gateways will enhance the efficiency of benefit disbursement.

Secretary Sumita Dawra highlighted that these integrations would expedite access to benefits, ensuring faster and more transparent delivery.

A New Era in Worker Welfare

The multilingual e-Shram portal is more than a digital tool; it represents the government’s commitment to inclusivity and welfare. By addressing linguistic challenges and improving accessibility, this initiative empowers unorganized workers to claim their rightful benefits.

As the portal evolves, it promises to create a robust safety net for millions, fostering social security and economic stability. With a vision for inclusivity, the e-Shram portal reflects India’s progressive approach toward worker welfare in the digital age.
