I feel Censor Board should not act as villain for films: Anupam Kher

Mumbai: Veteran actor Anupam Kher visited Subhash Ghai‘s Whistling Woods International Film School to guide students on Thursday in Mumbai. While interacting with media, Anupam Kher stated that Censor Board should not act as villain for films.

Censor board has a certain disregard for creative freedom as they have demanded 48 cuts in Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz and CBFC chairman Nihalani once again faced criticism from the industry people

Reacting to this decision from CBFC, Kher said, “I don’t think, it should be personality oriented. I don’t think Pehlaj Nihalani is doing all that but having said that I feel Censor Board need to relook at them. They are more and more coming across as people who know how to stop a film rather than how to facilitate the film. I have been Censor Board chairman for 1 year. There are rule books and guide lines but seeing that anyone can interpret things in their own way and by following that you can ban any film any release any film. We live in 21st century so we can watch anything on internet. I feel there is need of self-regulation”.

“I feel Censor Board should not act as villain for films. Censor Board’s existence is defined because of films so I feel they should help and respect filmmakers and Shyam Benegal’s extra committee report should be executed with immediate effect and let’s make films that we want to make.

Anupam Kher is playing important role in Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, talking about the film, Kher said, “Toilet –Ek Prem Katha is not a film, it’s a movement. Just like Akshay says it doesn’t matter whether our film works or not but if 10% people get aware and inspire from the film then its great achievement of our film. In this film, message has been presented in an entertaining manner so I hope people will appreciate the film.”

Recently, there was news that Anupam Kher fell ill at IIFA and Salman Khan helped from that situation, on that Kher said, “My health wasn’t good at IIFA as I didn’t ate anything for 12-13 hours so I blacked out but Salman was around at that time so he helped me because he is the kind of person who is very helpful in nature.”

Kher also spoke that if today an individual in film industry doesn’t take proper training then he is career span in this industry might be short so institutes like Whistling Wood are doing great work by training and promoting upcoming talent in the industry.

Anupam Kher’s Toilet – Ek Prem Katha is releasing on 11 August, 2017.
