Court issues bailable warrant against Kangana Ranaut in Javed Akhtar's complaint

The defamation case was filed by Javed Akhtar last year against Kangana for passing defamatory remarks during an interview. The interview was held post the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Court issues bailable warrant against Kangana Ranaut in Javed Akhtar's complaint

The Andheri metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai issued a bailable warrant against Kangana Ranaut in a defamation case filed by Javed Akhtar. The actress was summoned to appear before the court on 1 March but failed to do so. The news was confirmed by ANI in a tweet which read, "Mumbai: Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Andheri issues a bailable warrant against actor Kangana Ranaut in a defamation case filed against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar. Court issues the warrant after she failed to appear before it despite being summoned."

Kangana Ranaut:

Kangana's lawyer who was present for the hearing said that they will challenge the same in a higher court. The next hearing has now been scheduled for 26 March. "Kangana Ranaut's lawyer, who was present at the court, tells it that they want to challenge the summons in a higher court. Next hearing on 26th March," an ANI tweet read.

For the unversed, the defamation case was filed by Javed Akhtar last year against Kangana for passing defamatory remarks during an interview. The interview was held post the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Complaint:

As per the complaint, Kangana linked the lyricist to the demise of Sushant and referred his name while stating that a “coterie” exists in Bollywood.

Akhtar had filed the complaint in November 2020 and the police took cognisance of the same. On further investigations, Akhtar even submitted a copy of his complaint to the Juhu Police station. As well as a recording of Kangana's interview which reportedly dates back to July 2020.

Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput passed away in June 2020 in his apartment in Mumbai. The actor's demise left his fans devastated and furious at the workings of the Hindi film industry.
