Chandigarh: The tiff between the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the makers of Udta Punjab has eventually taken a political shape. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh has now announced to release the uncensored version of the film in Punjab on June 17 to mark it as protest against the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP for doing nothing to control the drug menace in the state.

Singh has requested the co-producer of the film, Anurag Kashyap to send him the DVD of the uncensored copy of Udta Punjab which he will release in Majitha town near Amritsar.

The Congress leader said, "Majitha town, like Mexico, is the epicentre of drugs trade in Punjab. It was decided to release the movie there."

Amarinder Singh said that the intention behind releasing the film in Majitha is to expose the ruling Akalis and BJP, who are trying to hide the truth.

He said, "Not only do we want to highlight the harsh reality of Punjab, but also assert the right to freedom of speech and expression guaranteed by our Constitution, which is being infringed upon by the BJP at the behest of the Akalis, using the censor board."

The Lok Sabha member from Amritsar complimented the makers of Udta Punjab for portraying the harsh reality of Punjab on the big screen.
