Britney Spears is dead, claims Sony
Los Angeles: In a shocker, the official Twitter handle of Sony Music on Monday declared popular American singer Britney Spears dead!
The company, however, did not do this itself but some hackers had spread the death hoax using their official handle on the micro-blogging site.
The Sony Music post read, "RIP @britneyspears #RIPBritney 1981-2016."
In another tweet, it claimed, "Britney Spears is dead by accident! We will tell you more soon #RIPBritney."
The tweets, however, were deleted after some time after a representative of the pop star clarified that the claim was absolutely false.
Her manager, Adam Leber, claimed, "I believe their account has been hacked. I did not have any conversation with anyone but I am very sure that their account has been hacked. Britney is doing absolutely fine."
Later in the day on Monday, the company admitted that Sony Music Entertainment official Twitter account had been "compromised" and the problem had been rectified. They also apologised to Britney as well as her fans for the confusion.
