Bengaluru concert of Grammy Award winner David Guetta cancelled

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police on Thursday claimed that the concert by David Guetta here has not been cancelled but only postponed. The organisers, however, stated that they were asked to call it off due to the poor law and order situation in the city.

The security concerns were cited because of the mass molestation and groping of women on the New Year's Eve on MG Road and Brigade Road in Bengaluru despite the presence of 1500 police personnel in the area.

"Citing poor law and order situation in Bengaluru after the shameful incident of New Year's Eve, the concerned officials have suggested us not to conduct the David Guetta concert which was scheduled today in Bengaluru," said Karan Singh, CEO of Sunburn.

Sunburn is among India's biggest electronic dance music festivals, which was organising the Guetta charity concert.

Police, however, is claiming to have recommended the organisers to reschedule the concert as they sought permission for the event too late and a local election is already being held in the area on Thursday. The police also said that there were no law and order fears.

"A big event was already planned in the same district. We don't have enough man power to handle 20,000 people. In view of the elections, we refused the permission. If you organise such a big event, all logistical arrangements should be looked into and authorities should be spoken with as well," said senior police officer Amit Singh.

Describing the cancellation of the concert as unfortunate, Karan Singh said, "We at Sunburn tried our very best to make it happen but the authorities understandably are not prepared to take any chances."

Singh, however, assured that Sunburn will attempt to reschedule the concert if the artist and the respective authorities give their approval.

He further stated that Guetta, who is a Grammy award winner DJ and music composer, will perform in Mumbai, New Delhi and Hyderabad as per the schedule.

Booking site Bookmyshow would notify all the ticket buyers of the Bengaluru show about the future updates in this regard, he added.

David Guetta was scheduled to perform in Bengaluru today followed by performances in Mumbai tomorrow, in Hyderabad on Saturday and in Delhi suburb Noida on Sunday.
