She completed her schooling in Gurudaspur first then joined Scared Heart school, Dalhousie. She graduated from Gurunanak University, Amritsar and Post graduated from Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

Nothing is impossible if one have determination and the zeal to succeed. Rukamini Riar proved that you can achieve anything if you continue to try. Although she failed in sixth grade yet she went on to qualify in Union Public Service examination and became an IAS officer. Every year lakhs of students appear for the IAS exam but hardly a few hundred succeed. Rukamini is also one of the successful example of this. This story is dedicated to IAS Rukamini Riar.

She was born in Gurudaspur of Punjab in 1987. She was an average student in her class. She failed in sixth class too. She completed her schooling in Gurudaspur first then joined Scared Heart school, Dalhousie. She graduated from Gurunanak University, Amritsar and Post graduated from Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

After completing her PG, she did internship with Ashodya in Mysore and Annpurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai. She wanted to become and IAS officer and therefore decided to appear in the Civil Services exam. She cracked her exam in 2011 and became second topper in all India. She did not join any coaching but only did self-study.

Secret of the success:

She studied the NCERT books of class 6th to 12th. With this Riar read newspapers and magazines daily. Riar has a message for those dreaming to become IAS officers. She says that they should read newspapers, magazine and prepare their subjects well.
