PhD not mandatory for recruitment of Assistant Professors till 2023: UGC

New Delhi: UGC has given a big relief to the candidates willing to apply for the posts of Assistant Professor. UGC will not make PhD degree mandatory for application to the post of Assistant Professor till July 2023. The UGC has taken this decision due to the COVID-19 pandemic that came across the country last year. Actually, the corona epidemic that came in the year 2020 greatly affected the teaching activities.

PhD not mandatory:

All educational institutions including schools, colleges, universities remained closed. Although online classes were started, but research work in higher education almost came to a standstill, due to which students have not been able to complete their PhD. Understanding this problem of the students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken a big decision.

Significantly, in this regard, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had made a big announcement regarding the mandatory PhD degree to apply for the post of Assistant Professor. The Education Minister had said that PhD will not be mandatory for the recruitment of assistant professors in colleges.
