Mumbai: Massive fire breaks out at scrapyard in Mankhurd

Mumbai: The huge fire engulfed a godown near Maya Hotel in Mankhurd region here on Sunday.

After erupting at around 6 am, the blazes soon turned into a level 4 fire, confirmed the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB). Soon the fire also reached out to the nearby godowns.

Several fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. No injuries, however, have been reported so far in the incident, said chief fire officer PS Rahangdale.

Among the things which have turned into ashes are plastic drums, packing material, stock of oil, scrap material, plastic bottles, electric wiring, plywood, wooden furniture, scrap wiring, stock of chemical, wooden and GI sheet partition etc. These things were kept in an area of 1000 x 800 sq ft. in around 50-60 galas.

The authorities have deployed three Fire Axe Machines, private tankers and nine jets of 17 fire engines to douse the huge fire.

M-East Ward Assistant Commissioner Municipal has ordered the concerned officials to demolish the illegally built structure and lodge FIR against those responsible for the mishap.

Mumbai Police said, "All Officer and Staff of Fire Brigade and Police officials of Mankhurd Police Station are on spot for further support."
