Lucknow: Lucknow University Finance Officer Suresh Upadhyay was removed by the Vice Chancellor of LU, Prof. SP Singh on Thursday. The Dean of Arts Department, Prof. PC Mishra has been given the charge of finance officer.

This is the first administrative action taken by the university authorities since the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was shown black flags during his visit few days back.

Sources close to the university said that Upadhyay has been removed on the request of a politician who was one of the organisers of the Yogi Adityanath programme.

The activists alleged that a BJP programme was being held at the expense of the university and students.

Police later lathicharged the protesters and took them into custody.

Yogi Adityanath was invited as the chief guest of a program organised on the Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji.

The protesters had alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party event was an attempt to forcefully saffronise the institution.

Following the incident, Lucknow SSP Deepak Kumar had suspended six policemen for laxity. This included Sub-Inspector Virendra Yadav of Chinhat police station and five constables.
