LUCKNOW: It is for the second consecutive year that the board exams of students are in a limbo due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Taking stock of the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in the country, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday decided to postpone the exams for class 12th students while altogether cancelling the Class Xth exam board exams for this year. The direction taken by the CBSE is certainly going to give a cue to several state boards with many state boards likely to announce their decision in the coming days.

Now, Uttar Pradesh Board has decided to postpone the board examinations till May 20.

The most populated state of the country Uttar Pradesh has taken a call on conducting the board exams during the Covid-19 pandemic. While the scheduled board exams for Class Xth and Class XIIth which were slated to begin from May 8, are postponed till May 20. A large number of state education board officials testing positive has cast a shadow over the exams. Moreover, the Covid-19 situation in Uttar Pradesh is turning for the worse.

UP Board class 10, 12 exams postponed

With 17 out of 19 officials responsible for conducting the UP Education Board examination, testing positive for Covid, the fate of over 56 lakh UP students, slated to undertake the state education board examinations for classes 10 and 12 from May 8, now postponed.

UP Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who also holds the portfolio of the secondary education minister, said, "Every year about 56 to 57 lakh students appear in UP Board examinations for classes 10 and 12. The board exams were to be held initially from April 24. But they were postponed to May 8 following the steep rise in the Covid infection."

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh reported 20,510 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the number of active cases in the state to 1,11,835.
