Government re-introduces compulsory class X board examination
State governments will be given authority to reintroduce class V and VIII board examinations. "The decision to conduct class V and VIII board examinations will be left with the state," the minister said.
Jaipur: The government had decided to reintroduce compulsory class X board examination for all CBSE schools from the academic year 2017-18.
Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javadekar said on Monday, “the main focus of the ministry is on strengthening the basic education system and to improve the quality of school education and for this purpose the cabinet has decided to reintroduce class X board examination.
The HRD minister held meeting the Rajasthan Education Minister in Jaipur and discussed about the other reforms in this sector.
Other decisions as stated by Javadekar:
- State governments will be given authority to reintroduce class V and VIII board examinations. "The decision to conduct class V and VIII board examinations will be left with the state," the minister said.
- Improve the condition of government schools. “Narendra Modi-led government is working to improve academic standard in government schools and wants the curiosity among students to grow with education,” he stated.
- A web IIT-PAL will be introduced for free of cost on which students will get facilities like study material, guidance by experts and discussion options to crack JEE and IIT examinations. “This step has been taken to reduce the number of suicides due to pressure of higher studies,” he said.
