Ballia:Four 'Ashtdhatu' idols, estimated to be worth crores in international market, were stolen from an ancient temple in Charonva village under Bhimpura police station of Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night.

The theft came to light when a villager saw the main gate of the temple open with broken lock. He informed the priest who had gone to his fields when the crime was committed.

District police chief Manoj Kumar Jha said the FIR had been registered and the search for the thieves was launched. Out of these four idols one was of Lord Hanuman while one was of Lord Buddha.
