In a shocking incident, a tribal woman was allegedly stripped and paraded before the villagers by her husband at a village in Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan.
According to the police sources in Jaipur, the incident happened on August 31 but came to light later, when a video purportedly showing the woman being paraded went viral on social media platforms triggering widespread outrage.
Police sources said that an FIR was registered in this connection and three persons, including the husband of the woman, have been arrested.
Sources said that the husband of the woman was angry with her as she had allegedly eloped with another youth around six months back. She had returned home on August 30.
The woman’s husband, on getting the information that she had returned, reached her house and forcibly brought her to his village with the help of some others. Once she reached there, she was allegedly stripped naked by her husband and paraded before the villagers.
Eye witnesses said that the woman pleaded with the offenders to let her go and also sought help of the people but none came forward to rescue her. In fact many people were seen making videos of the incident even she continued to cry and shout for help.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident and said that the police had been directed to take stern action against the offenders. ‘’This kind of act can never be tolerated in a civil society….we will ensure stern action against whoever is guilty,’’, he added.
The opposition parties, however, slammed the Congress government in Rajasthan saying that the state government had failed to ensure safety of the women. ‘’This government remains a mere spectator as the women are tortured, raped and molested,’’ former Rajasthan chief minister and senior BJP leader Vasundhara Raje Scindia said.
