Three devotees crushed to death in Jodhpur
The deceased were said to be residents of Bundi and Sikar districts of Rajasthan, the officials said. The private bus was carrying passengers from Jaipur and was on way to Jaisalmer.
Three women were killed and several others injured when a private bus ploughed into a crowd of devotees who were on way to Ramdeora, a famous pilgrimage in Rajasthan, in the wee hours of Saturday.
The mishap occurred near Bilara area in Jodhpur district around four in the morning while a group of women devotees were going on foot to Ramdeora in the neighbouring Jaisalmer district, the police officials said in Jodhpur.
The deceased were said to be residents of Bundi and Sikar districts of Rajasthan, the officials said. The private bus was carrying passengers from Jaipur and was on way to Jaisalmer.
Three women devotees were crushed to death while four others injured. The injured were rushed to the nearby hospital with the help of the local residents, the police said.
The eye witnesses said that the bus driver fled from the spot after the incident. Police said that the bus was owned by Jakhar Travels.
The eye witnesses said that the driver appeared to be dozing and might have lost control over the steering wheel as a result of which the bus ploughed into the group of the devotees who were walking on foot on the side of the road.
The deceased were identified as Asha Devi, Badami Devi and Prem Devi, residents of Bundi and Sikar districts respectively.
Senior district officials rushed to the spot after getting the information and later visited the hospital to know their well being. Directives have been issued to shift the seriously injured persons to the specialised centres in Jodhpur, the police said.
The police sources said that a case was registered at Bilara police station in this regard and a hunt was launched to nab the erring bus driver. The cops were also trying to contact the owner of the bus.
