Under-19 World Cup: India beats Aussies to lift up the trophy

Tauranga: India beats Australia comprehensively and convincingly in an exciting final match of Under-19 world Cup 2018 on Saturday. Rahul Dravid's boys have proved that Indian cricket will get to see some superstar players in the coming future.

Manjot Kalra showed his brilliant batting style and became the second Indian after Unmukt Chand scored a hundred in the U-19 World Cup final.

The explosive left-handed opening batsman played the most crucial knock of his career so far, and gave an unbeaten 101 leading India to win their fourth ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup win.

Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh and Anukul Roy picked up two wickets each for India. Desai too brought up the title win in style, smashing a boundary off Australian pacer Will Sutherland.

India had already reached 23/0 with the openers Prithvi Shaw (10 not out off 18 balls; 4X1) and Manjot Kalra (9 not out off 7; 6X1) going undivided when the umpires decided to call the covers in due to rain that had interrupted the match.

Jonathan Merlo top-scored for the Australians with a steady 102-ball 76, laced with six boundaries even as the Indian bowlers complemented each other well to bundle out the opposition in 47.2 overs.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, the Australians lost their three top batsmen with just 59 runs on the board, thanks to pacer Ishan Porel's twin strikes early on.

India thus became the first nation to win the ICC U19 World Cup four times. They had earlier won the title in 2000, 2008 and 2012.

Australia are second on the list with three titles.

This is the second time that India have defeated Australia in the final. They had earlier defeated the boys from Down Under in the final of the 2012 edition.

The Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) announced prize money for victorious India U-19 team.

Rahul Dravid, Head Coach India U19 will get Rs 50 lakhs while members of Indian Under-19 team will get Rs 30 lakhs with each Members of the Support Staff, receiving Rs 20 lakhs each.
