Election officials in Gujarat will send over 20 lakh invitations to voters, especially women, across the state in their effort to increase people's participation in the Lok Sabha elections. The initiative covers more than 13,000 polling stations where the gap between male and female voters is more than 10 per cent and where the total turnout during the last assembly elections was less than 50 per cent.

Seven of Gujarat's 26 Lok Sabha seats Voting will be held in the third phase on May. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Gujarat recorded 64.11 percent voting, while the national average was 67.40 percent.

The Election Officer said that through these invitation letters, the Chief Electoral Officer has appealed to the women voters to take out time from their busy schedules and vote with their families and inspire others to do the same. It said district election officers have been directed to organize 'Chunav Pathshala' at all polling stations to discuss the reasons for low turnout and make efforts to ensure maximum voter participation.
