Chhattisgarh: 12 killed in road accident in Durg

According to the police the mishap occurred when the victims were returning from duty on Tuesday night.

A major road accident has occurred in Durg, Chhattisgarh. A bus fell into a 50 feet deep gorge in Kumhari of Durg district. So far, the news of death of 12 people has come to light in this incident. Two women are included in the dead. More than 15 people are said to be injured.

According to the police the mishap occurred when the victims were returning from duty on Tuesday night. The bus full of employees fell into a ditch. About 40 employees of Kedia Distillery Factory were traveling in the bus. So far 12 people have lost their lives after the bus fell into the ditch. As soon as information about this incident was received, the rescue team immediately reached the spot and relief and rescue operations were started immediately. The rescue operation continued till late night.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai expressed grief over this incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Vijay Sharma reached Raipur AIIMS late night to meet the injured. He said that a magisterial inquiry will be conducted seriously into this accident. The injured told the Deputy CM that not a single light of the bus that had fallen into the ditch was burning. There were pits on both sides of the road. Let us tell you that 15 injured are being treated in different hospitals of Raipur and Durg. The condition of two people remains critical.

President Draupadi Murmu has also expressed grief over this incident. President Murmu said on 'X', "The news of many casualties due to a bus accident in Durg district of Chhattisgarh is very sad. My deepest condolences to all the bereaved families. I wish for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Police officials say that this incident happened on Tuesday night at 8.30 pm. As the bus reached near Khapri village, it suddenly lost control and fell into the 40 feet deep Murum mine. According to the police, after getting information about the incident, a police team was sent to the spot and rescue operations were started. He told that the dead bodies and injured were sent to the hospital. Efforts are also going on to take out the bus from the mine.
