The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a tough six-wicket defeat against the Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2024 match. Missing one of their frontline pacers, Mayank Yadav, proved to be a significant setback for the team. The 21-year-old fast bowler had emerged as a crucial member of the side, thanks to his incredible pace of over 150 kph and impressive accuracy.

Mayank had set the league alight since his debut for the Super Giants against the Punjab Kings, picking up seven wickets in three matches. Unfortunately, an injury forced him out during the game against the Gujarat Titans last week. His absence was evident during the match against the Capitals, where Jake Fraser-McGurk (55*) and Rishabh Pant (41) played blistering knocks to secure a comprehensive win for DC.

KL Rahul, the captain of LSG, provided an update on Mayank’s potential return during the post-match presentation. He stated, “He (Mayank Yadav) is feeling good, he looks good, but we don’t want to rush him. We need to protect his body, he’s itching to go. Need to make sure that he’s hundred per cent (fit) before he comes back in a couple of matches.” The team management remains cautious over the handling of the young pacer.

Earlier, the side’s head coach, Justin Langer, had also indicated that Mayank isn’t expected to return before LSG’s clash against the Chennai Super Kings, scheduled for April 19. Langer emphasized the importance of ensuring Mayank regains full fitness before his comeback.

Despite the defeat, LSG remains in contention, currently occupying the fourth spot in the points table. As the IPL 2024 season progresses, fans eagerly await Mayank Yadav’s return to action, hoping he can bolster the team’s bowling attack and contribute to their campaign.
