President of India Draupadi Murmu on Saturday at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan along with former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan. And Karpoori Thakur, who was twice Chief Minister of Bihar, was awarded the country's highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna posthumously. Sources said that President Murmu will visit the residence of senior BJP leader LK Advani.

For former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, this honor was accepted from Murmu by his son PV Prabhakar Rao. For Chaudhary Charan Singh, his grandson and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) President Jayant Chaudhary accepted the honor from the President. On behalf of Swaminathan, his daughter Nitya Rao and on behalf of Karpoori Thakur, his son Ramnath Thakur received the award from President Murmu. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries were present at the event.

The central government announced five names for Bharat Ratna this year, which also included BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. Sources said that President Murmu will visit the residence of senior BJP leader LK Advani and honor him with the prestigious award. He said that this decision has been taken in view of the poor health of senior BJP leader Advani. Lal Krishna Advani was born on November 8, 1927 in Karachi. Since the establishment of Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980, he served as the National President of BJP for a long time. His parliamentary career has spanned nearly 3 decades in which he was first the Home Minister and later the Deputy Prime Minister in the cabinet of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Chaudhary Charan Singh

President Draupadi Murmu posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. The feeling of patriotism was strong in Chaudhary Charan Singh. He had to go to jail several times during the freedom struggle. His contribution to the abolition of zamindari and land reforms and his deep understanding of economics, especially rural and agricultural economics, are remembered with respect. His connection with the farmers was amazing. Bharat Ratna was received on behalf of late Chaudhary Charan Singh by his grandson Shri Jayant Chaudhary.

PV Narasimha Rao

As the ninth Prime Minister of India, PV Narasimha Rao carried out far-reaching economic reforms. President Draupadi Murmu honored PV Narasimha Rao with Bharat Ratna posthumously. In his youth, he fought in the freedom struggle, especially against misrule and oppression in Hyderabad during the Nizamshahi. His command over many languages and literatures was well known. Bharat Ratna was received on behalf of late PV Narasimha Rao by his son PV Prabhakar Rao.

Dr MS Swaminathan

President Draupadi Murmu honored Dr MS Swaminathan with Bharat Ratna posthumously. Dr. Swaminathan played a major role in making India self-reliant in food production. He is known as the 'Father of India's Green Revolution'. With his extraordinary understanding of every aspect related to agriculture, he guided many campaigns for research, education and development of new varieties and methods. He dedicated his entire life to the goal of food and nutritional security for all. He continued to work to promote sustainable agriculture with the vision of "Ever-Green Revolution". Bharat Ratna was received on behalf of late Dr. MS Swaminathan by his daughter Dr. Nitya Rao.

Karpuri Thakur

President Draupadi Murmu also honored Karpoori Thakur with Bharat Ratna posthumously. Karpoori Thakur, who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the underprivileged, had earned a lot of respect and people had given him the status of 'Jan Nayak'. Karpoori Thakur was a freedom fighter. He was a strong advocate of equality and inclusive development. He is known for the simplicity of his life and selfless actions. Bharat Ratna was received by his son Ramnath Thakur on behalf of late Karpoori Thakur.
